BHP tells us to think big. Their new big idea is to rip off coal miners through their new in-house labour hire subsidiary Operations Services.
Operations Services workers are ‘branded’ BHP but are paid 40% less than workers employed under union-negotiated site agreements. They miss out on important working conditions like accident pay and can be transferred to any site in Australia at the company’s discretion, even if it’s in a different state.
Operations Services workers are being recruited and deployed at NSW’s Mt Arthur and BHP’s coal mines across the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland.
BHP is using the Operations Services in-house labour hire model to drive down workers’ wages and conditions.
Coal mining is a tough job and all workers at BHP coal mines - whether permanent, contract or Operations Services - deserve fair pay, conditions and job security. Think fair, BHP.
